In These Economic Times...

If you've turned on your PC, TV, or Radio even once in the last several months you've probably heard some pundit, maverick, punk ass, or jack ass start what is no doubt meant to be a meaningful, poignant, insightful commentary with the words "In these economic times..."

In these economic times, I'm absolutely, utterly, and completely sick of hearing about these economic times. The anchors on the news say it in a way that makes it sound like these last few months have been the only "times" in recorded history where we have had an "economic" to talk about. These times, these days, the ones here and now and never before and possibly never again are the times of economy. A local DJ on a rock station here started talking about how "in these economic times..." we should take advantage of their promotional happy hour gimmick they have with one of the downtown bars. Because in this financial End of Day's what we need most is to save money on liquid depressants.

Another one I'm getting sick of; financiapocalypse. It's yet another portmanteau that clever little blogs like The Consumerist and personas like Stephen Colbert like make up to seem witty like prosumer, bridezilla, and twincest (I thought I invented this one until I Googled it, shit). Just like Colbert's "truthiness", the damn financiapocalypse is showing up everywhere. A local news anchor use the word in her Twitter update, the same people who actually use "epic fail" in daily conversation are now experts on the financiapocalypse. They even have financiapocalypse plans, which are basically their Z-Day (zombie invasion, yes I'm serious) plans with a 401k. Strangely, these same people are avid WOW players.

However, in these economic times, these financial times, these money times, these mammogram times...it really seems to work with just about any word. But in these times of times, we have to stay strong, we have to buy local, we have to take the advise of Jim Cramer with a grain of salt or share of Ford stock. We have to stop driving these stupid phrases into the ground to the point where no one even hears them anymore.

...blogosphere...
